Stephanie Tum Launches Afro Film 'Crossed Paths' on YouTube

Cameroonian actress and digital content creator Stephanie Tum has announced the release of her new film, Crossed Paths, on her YouTube channel, Stephanie Tum TV. The production, released in April 2025, marks another milestone in her growing catalogue of Afro-diaspora storytelling, following her earlier titles Between Yesterday and Tomorrow and Saving Mbango.

A Cross-Border Production

The film features a cast drawn from both Cameroon and Nigeria, including Godisz Fungwa, Nosa Rex (also known as Babarex), Angel Unigwe, Stephanie Tum herself, and Emeka Okoye. The project was directed by Chimobi Mo'Nuel, written by Stella Ifekwe and OdunAyomi Sikiru of the Omas Princess Benjamin Writers Agency, and produced by Claudia Siri, with Oben K. Djeudo serving as production manager. The production house behind the project is Embi Productions.

Debate Over Character Authenticity

Ahead of and following the release, Stephanie Tum addressed criticism from some Cameroonian viewers who questioned the decision by actor Godisz Fungwa to adopt a Nigerian accent and use local Nigerian slang in the film. In a statement shared on social media, Tum defended the creative choice, explaining that Fungwa's character, Danny, is a Nigerian man working as a bus conductor at the CMS bus park in Lagos. She argued that requiring him to sound Cameroonian in that context would undermine the authenticity and credibility of the performance. Tum pointed to Fungwa's role in Saving Mbango, where he plays a Cameroonian palm oil producer and speaks Cameroonian Pidgin, as evidence of the actor's range and professional discipline.
