Nigerian stand-up comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma and South African actress and humanitarian Nomzamo Mbatha have been officially unveiled as co-hosts of the 12th Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA 12), set to take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria.
A New Era for Africa's Premier Screen Awards
The announcement marks a significant changing of the guard for what is widely regarded as the continent's most celebrated film and television awards ceremony. The duo replaces broadcasting veteran IK Osakioduwa, who anchored the AMVCA stage for a remarkable decade, becoming synonymous with the event's prestige and energy. Bovi, widely recognised as Nigeria's king of stand-up comedy, said he was acutely aware of the occasion's weight. "The AMVCA stage is one of the biggest in Africa, and I don't take that lightly," he said. "I want to bring the energy, the laughs, and the magic that this night deserves. African storytelling is at an all-time high, and it's an honour to be the one holding the mic while we celebrate the best of it."
Mbatha Brings Global Credentials to the Stage
Nomzamo Mbatha adds considerable international stature to the hosting duties. The actress, producer, and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador gained global recognition through her role in Coming 2 America and currently stars as Queen Nandi in the acclaimed epic drama series Shaka iLembe, on which she also serves as Executive Producer. Her appointment signals the organisers' intention to position the ceremony as a truly pan-African and globally relevant event.

Veteran actress Joke Silva has been named Head Judge for the 12th edition, lending further industry authority to the judging process. This year's ceremony features 32 categories — 18 decided by a jury, 11 determined by public vote, and three special recognition awards — promising a competitive run-up to the May 9 event.
