Aliko Dangote, founder and chairman of the Dangote Group and Africa's most prominent industrialist, has been named on TIME Magazine's 2026 TIME100 list of the world's most influential people. The list, published on April 15, spans global leaders in politics, business, technology and culture.
A Rare Second Appearance
Dangote is the only Nigerian featured on the 2026 list and appears in the prestigious "Titans" category, reserved for figures who have fundamentally shaped their industries and societies. This marks his second TIME100 recognition, having first appeared on the list in 2014 in acknowledgement of his contributions to business and philanthropy across the African continent.
Recognition for Industrial Impact
TIME highlighted Dangote's pivotal role in advancing industrialisation across Africa through large-scale investments in cement, agriculture, food processing, infrastructure and energy. The magazine specifically noted his strategic focus on building globally competitive industries by leveraging local resources — a model that has drawn international attention as a blueprint for African economic self-sufficiency. Recent major investments in manufacturing and energy, including the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos, were cited among the achievements that earned him the recognition.

Beyond business, TIME also acknowledged Dangote's humanitarian footprint through the Aliko Dangote Foundation, which funds initiatives in healthcare, education and economic empowerment across Nigeria and the wider African region.
