Veteran hip-hop artists 50 Cent and Jadakiss are collaborating on a new documentary project titled Becoming DMX, honouring the legacy of the late rapper Earl Simmons, widely known as DMX, who died in April 2021 at the age of 50.
According to announcements from the project's principals, Jadakiss — a longtime friend and collaborator of DMX through their shared Yonkers and broader New York hip-hop roots — will serve as host of the documentary series. 50 Cent, whose entertainment and production company G-Unit Film and Television has built a strong track record in television and documentary content, will take on the role of executive producer.
DMX, born in Mount Vernon, New York, rose to international fame in the late 1990s with a string of chart-topping albums including It's Dark and Hell Is Hot and Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood. He became one of the most recognisable voices in hip-hop history, known for his raw intensity, spiritual themes, and devoted fanbase. His passing prompted an outpouring of tributes from across the music world.
No broadcast partner, release date, or additional production details have been officially confirmed at this stage. The project is nonetheless generating significant interest among hip-hop fans and industry observers, given the stature of those involved and the enduring cultural footprint of DMX's career and personal story.
